Dia de los Muertos y Marigolds Celebration in the South Valley - 2023

On Sunday, November 5 the South Valley celebrated Dia de los Muertos once again.  It seemed like it had been since forever.  Five years or so ago, organizers talked of the parade having gotten too big and having to give it up.  Then the pandemic stopped things for a couple of years.  I believe this is the first celebration in 3 years.  Nonetheless, it was reimagined and took place farther down the valley in a sprawling county park. Although the gathering lacked much of the excitement brought by the parade - both from the participants with their raw enthusiasm, and from the hordes of spectactors that lined Isleta Boulevard - there was the same in spirit with folks in their finest Dia regalia and soaring moods steeped in South Valley pride.  It was wonderful to be immersed in it all again.

As always, thanks to all for letting me intrude with my camera (although it didn't feel like I was).  If anyone sees their photo and would like me to send you a copy, please contact me.

And, if interested, here is a link to the folks who organize the event - Muertos y Marigolds.
